Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Meissner.
Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a native Floridian (grew up in South Florida and relocated to Orlando in 2011). I grew up taking road trips with my grandparents and several trips to the theme parks each year, which started my love for travel. Being able to explore new places and try new things is my happy place. I started a YouTube channel to share my adventures about three years ago and it has pushed me to be more creative which I’m very grateful for. A big reason why I started my channel is also because I suffer from depression (which really started in my middle school years) and there were days I wouldn’t leave my bed. My channel motivates me to keep creating, keep highlighting others in the community and to travel to my heart’s content.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up, I hated the sound of my voice. Anytime a home movie came on I rolled my eyes anytime I was on screen. Even in the early days of my videos, I didn’t really talk much and they ended up coming out like music videos. I have progressed past this and am way less harsh on myself. I’ve also learned a lot along the way in regards to filming and editing. My husband is a professional video editor who has taught me tips and tricks through the years so I have become a lot more confident in my skills.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I moved to Orlando to work for the theme parks. I did the Disney College Program and worked at attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and DisneyQuest. Over the years, I found out Universal Orlando would be where I wanted to grow. I currently work in their Marketing and Sales Department but my dream role is to be in the creative field, preferably working on events like Halloween Horror Nights.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It’s really hard to not compare myself to others, but it is the best advice I can give to anyone. Follow your gut and do what makes you happy. Growing up with the internet and seeing it get to the point where numbers can start to affect how you feel, DON’T LET IT. Set realistic goals and make your craft authentically.
