Today we’d like to introduce you to Liliana Flores
Hi Liliana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I want to talk about my content creator journey.
For years and years, some of my friends would always tell me that I should just start a YouTube channel. I was always afraid to and never thought anyone except them would care.
In October 2024, I was away in Louisiana for a work trip that would keep me there for a month, so I figured I would finally give it a go. It’s not a massive growth, but I’ve since gotten over 400 followers collectively on all my social media platforms.
My biggest identity factors were being Latina (where my Mexericans at???), plus-sized, and a thrift lover. I quickly found my community, especially regarding Latino culture. One thing I noticed, particularly in the TikTok community, is that the Latina/es will always support each other. I have made so many friends who support me on every video and post across different platforms.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle existing on the internet as someone trying to build their own community and following is engagement and what that means to me. Some videos go mostly unnoticed, while others get a lot more views. As someone who seeks affirmation and outward praise, this is something I had to learn painfully.
Not everyone is going to like or resonate with your content. A lot of people will view and not engage at all. That’s okay! That’s normal! Ultimately, it helps you connect with the right community and with people who will ACTUALLY support you!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a social media content creator. My specialty revolves around community for Latino/es, influencing people to shop secondhand and shop more ethically, and being a space for plus-sized creators and fashionistas to connect. I’m most proud of myself, honestly. For putting myself out there and welcoming this life for me. I think what sets me apart is, while those aforementioned specialties are my biggest identifiers, I’m not so single-noted. I also love music and my cat and vintage things and I love being an advocate for marginalized communities and using my platform to speak out against certain negative issues that are occurring.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest cheerleaders are honestly my sister and my boyfriend! For Christmas, my sister got me a bunch of content creator tools that I’ve loved using to help me record higher quality videos. She is my younger sister, so she’ll still tease me about it, but I always know I can count on her to share a milestone I have and she’ll always be happy for me and support me through it all. Same goes for my boyfriend! He downloaded TikTok just to support me on there. He gives me video ideas and tips on what he thinks could help me grow more! Having them is so important to my continued success and motivation.
