Hi Lyz, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into professional piercing kicked off full time right here in Clermont back in 2013 at Toxic Ink Tattoo — long before “Piercings by Lyz” was even a thought. With a love for jewelry, art, and helping people feel confident in their own skin, what started as nothing turned into so much more… something magical, unexpected, and totally meant for me.
I was lucky enough to learn under the best mentor I could’ve asked for, Steven. His guidance and patience helped shape the piercer I am today and trust me, I carry his lessons with me into every shiny new piece of jewelry I place. (And yes, I brag about him… because duh, he’s the best lol.)
As the years went on, I poured my whole heart into this artistic world, investing in high-quality jewelry, studying, growing, and finding my own rhythm in the craft. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients of all ages, from kids 6 years old all the way through adults, creating safe, comfortable, confidence-boosting experiences for everyone who sits in my chair. That journey eventually led me to Ink Ink Tattoos in Minneola, where I continued to grow my brand until Piercings by Lyz LLC officially became mine in 2023! A dream I never imagined would become reality.
Today, I’m known for sparkly curated ears, thoughtful placement, and creating a warm, welcoming experience where everyone walks out glowing a little brighter. What started as a tiny dream turned into a safe, and happy kind of space and I’m so grateful for this journey every single day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has this been a smooth road? Absolutely not, but the bumps made the view even better. This journey wasn’t all sparkles. I had to work my butt off: long hours, long nights, and plenty of “oh… we’re really doing this” moments. Learning technique, building trust, and proving myself in a field that has zero shortcuts? Definitely not a walk in the park.
There were tough days, moves, confidence checks, and times where life, family, and my career were all trying to juggle me instead of the other way around. But every struggle sharpened me. It pushed me, humbled me, and showed me exactly who I am — both as a piercer and a person.
It wasn’t smooth, but it was absolutely worth it… because every step brought me right where I’m meant to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a piercer who truly cares about creating clean, safe, and stylish piercings for everyone who walks into my room. Ear curations might be my favorite thing to do, but I put the same care, attention, and heart into every single piercing I do. Big or small. My goal is always for people to leave feeling confident, informed, and excited about their new sparkle. People often tell me they appreciate my energy and how calming I am, especially during moments when nerves are high. I like taking the time to explain the “why” behind every placement and jewelry choice, because I want my clients to feel involved, respected, and comfortable every step of the way. What I’m proudest of is the trust that’s grown over the years. Clients come back not just for the jewelry, but for the honesty, care, and good energy. I do my best to bring this into every session. What sets me apart isn’t anything flashy, it’s simply that I don’t rush, I don’t cut corners, and I treat each piercing with the attention it deserves. It’s part technique, part art, and a whole lot of heart… and I’m grateful every day that people trust me with it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has shown up in all kinds of ways for me. I’ve had my share of the tough stuff. The financial struggles, the fallouts, the setbacks that slowed me down, the slow seasons, and the moments where life really made me question if I was strong enough to keep going. There were times it felt like everything was just stacked against me.
But I’ve also had some truly incredible good luck. I’m blessed with a beautiful, healthy family, and I’m beyond grateful for the people who stepped in when I needed support the most. I give a lot to Ted, who gave me a roof over my head and a career during a time when life felt heavier than I could carry. He saved my life in more ways than one. That’s the kind of kindness that stays with you forever.
The hard moments taught me resilience and strength, but the good moments, especially the people who never left my side, are what keep me moving forward. My family, my friends, and the support around me are the true blessings in my journey, and I’m grateful for them every single day.
