Rising Stars: Meet Marianata A. Sylvaince of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianata A. Sylvaince

Hi Marianata A., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a Haitian woman & creator, I fell in love with the art world at a young age, but my journey of intentionally creating pieces began in my early teenage years, shortly after moving to the United States.

Through my years of exploration, I realized that my identity as a creator and alchemist meant more to me than any other path. This journey began with writing and drawing, then evolved into painting, experimenting with clay & forming a deep connection to pottery and ceramics.

I’ve intentionally explored a range of mediums & channels of expression— from fashion and music to culinary arts— never limiting myself to a single form of expression. Learning and creating have always been about experience rather than profession, each art form serves as an avenue for feeling and discovery.

Now, as I navigate my mid-twenties, I have a stronger understanding of my artistic identity, my values, and purpose. Yet, my journey with alchemy and creativity remains limitless— I continue to explore, evolve and learn from the realm of the arts—for both personal fulfillment and the enrichment of others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been bad, but it’s definitely been a journey of learning curves, patience, and evolution.

One of the biggest challenges has been refining my artistic voice—figuring out what truly makes my creations unique to me.

There have been moments of trial and error, whether it was experimenting with different mediums, sourcing the right materials, or balancing creativity with business.

At times, self-doubt crept in, especially when I felt like I wasn’t moving fast enough. But through it all, I’ve learned to trust my process, stay intentional, and embrace every phase of growth as part of my artistic rebirth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work spans multiple creative disciplines, but I’m best known for my illustrations, written pieces—whether articles or poetry—my fashion brand, my paintings, and the creative events I curate. Each of these outlets serves as a vessel for storytelling, emotion, and cultural expression.

I take pride in creating with intention, ensuring that everything I put out carries meaning, whether it’s a garment, a piece of writing, or a painting. One of my proudest achievements is seeing how my work resonates with others—how my words, visuals, or designs can spark thought, emotion, or even inspire someone else to create.

What sets me apart is my approach to art and creativity. I don’t just create for aesthetics; I create for depth, for feeling, for connection. I blend my Haitian heritage, personal experiences, and a sense of alchemy into everything I do. I’m not bound to one medium—I let my creativity flow freely, allowing it to take whatever form it needs to in the moment. That fluidity, along with my commitment to authenticity and storytelling, is what truly defines my work.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people assume my creativity is purely instinctual, but what they might not know is how much discipline and structure I’ve had to put into it. I’m not just creating when inspiration strikes—I’m constantly refining my craft, pushing my limits, and being intentional about evolution.

Another thing? As much as I create for others to experience, I value solitude deeply. My best ideas and most transformative work come from the time I spend alone, in my own world, experimenting and building.
