Rising Stars: Meet Mary Tutunjian of Tavares

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Tutunjian.

Hi Mary, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I first started dipping my toes into photography after my second son was born. I always loved taking pictures & some important events in my life left me with just photos to look back on. So, one day I just started. I started with close friends and then it all just became word do mouth. I have taught myself everything I needed to learn to start off. I follow a lot of photographers on social media, so I took tips & tricks from those I followed. And just took each session & kept learning throughout!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say it’s been smooth. I have not yet been overloaded; I think bc I’m just starting out with 2 years in. This industry there is always something to learn. The struggle is staying consistent enough to be able to call yourself a full-time photographer.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my photography business, I really try to do things how I, myself, would want them done. I love to help families, or couples even to have photos that they can look back on, as a keepsake memory… I’m most proud of the progress I’ve made in my work & creativity in the last 2 years. I’ve done a few weddings & that was a scary big jump for me, but I did it and loved it!!!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I am very passionate about birth, maternity, pregnancy. So, I want to incorporate my photography skills with alongside becoming a doula!
