Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Rosado.
Hi Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Wind Words began as a poetry project that included my journal and I. I would bring my acoustic guitar for the few songs I had written and a floor tom (drum) to invite friends to play a rhythm for some spoken word pieces. There came a moment in 2014 that I knew that these thoughts that I’ve written down were not just for me so I set out to learn how to communicate them and how to serve each one with kindness and honesty. Most recently, I’ve really appreciated the thought that poems and songs are only given in my care for a short amount of time and I hope to take care of them as far as it depends on me. I’ve been songwriting since I was in the 8th grade and playing drums in bands (hardcore, post-hardcore, punk, emo, rock) since then. This particular project has required patience and gentleness in the process of learning myself, expressing self-reflection and hope that sincerely has gripped my heart over the years.
All songs and poetry are available on all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube music, etc…). Digging Up Earth is the first full-length record released. Other EPs and singles are also available for listening. There is a spoken word project called The Minor Prophets on YouTube as well.
Since 2016 we has been touring in the USA and played music festivals such as Take Hold Fest, Audiofeed Music Festival, Flood City Fest, Bloodline Fest, Freedom Fest, Space Coast Music Fest, and several others.
Wind Words has evolved to include friends that contribute to the full band’s sound that is heard at shows that we play live. It’s talk music and talk rock and I hope we can have a conversation and get to know one another at a show someday.
Influences include: As Cities Burn, mewithoutYou, Propaganda, Bradley Hathaway, Levi the Poet, My Epic, Kevin Schlereth
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a much smoother road than I had anticipated because of the kindness of many. I have found, over the years, that welcoming light and life provides not only a safe space for others but also leads you in that same blessed disposition. The truth has always been that if you are daring to try something new that requires for you to become a student and a novice, you will always meet said challenge with the choice of leaning into the mystery or fighting to hold on to the allusion of control. This requires trust, faith, and a willingness to fail sometimes because you’ve given yourself the permission to learn.
Many people have invited me to tour with them and put together shows for their community with other locals and like-minded artists. They have opened their homes to me and my friends, and have shared the precious humans in their lives with us. It’s been so beautiful to find good people that love others well and leverage their influence for the benefit of others and the support of their individual stories. Compassion goes a long way when we are not only talking about it but finding creative ways to honor those in our lives and celebrate this experience, we call being human.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is with students at a local church in my hometown. I lead music for our gatherings with our youth band and host a songwriting group that welcomes all jr. high and sr. high students to come and process and learn to build stories together that offer transparency, hope, and encouragement. I also lead conversation groups for our student ministry. I hope to help cultivate and foster a space that grants permission and allows for each attendee to know their value if for something even as small as us gathering to something as huge as their purpose and exceedingly unquantifiable worth as divine image-bearer and friend. These are conversations and collaborative expressions of human growth and the thriving of the spirit no matter what season we may find ourselves in. We are not alone. We are heard. We are scene. We are known. We are loved.
I am proud of our students that have really taken ownership of using their creativity and compassion to cultivate community on a weekly basis. I find myself bragging about them on the road when I am meeting new people and talking with some of my friends from various communities across the states.
I am set apart to love and to heal. To listen and to hear. I am a firm believer of Jesus (The Christ) and the life of compassion and love for all people that he lived among, constantly inviting others to come alive and be filled with life and light, of hope and peace. I do endeavor for the Wind Words songs and poems to breathe hope and peace over anyone that may hear no matter where they come from or beliefs they may have or may not have. To be human is to be loved and welcomed and cared for. Permission to be. We are worthy to be.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is seeing others come alive, watching my friends do well and do good, learning to hurt and heal all at the same time while feeling all I need to feel alongside brothers and sisters leaning into living wholeheartedly together.
I want to learn to live from my whole heart that I may love the people in my life well.
