Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Green.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello I’m Michelle Green, an expressive mixed media painter, guided by intuition and curiosity. There was a time when my art was created in the quiet corners of a cubicle—snatched moments on lunch breaks or after long workdays, painting in the glow of a desk lamp. Back then, art felt like a lifeline, a whisper of who I truly was and the life I longed to create.
Fast forward to today, and here I am, standing in the middle of my own art studio, surrounded by canvases, colors, and endless possibilities. This journey hasn’t been a straight line, but it’s been transformative. Every step, every challenge, and every leap of faith has shaped me—not only as an artist but as a person.
My art has evolved alongside me. I started with simpler techniques, playing with light and color, learning to find my voice. Now, my work feels like it holds pieces of my soul—layers of symbolism, emotion, and growth. Whether it’s bold strokes or intricate details, each piece tells a story of where I’ve been and where I’m going.
This life didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t happen without fear, doubt, or a lot of hard work. But here’s what I’ve learned: when you listen to that quiet inner voice, the one that says, “This is who you are,” and you follow it—even when it feels impossible—you create something extraordinary.
My style is expressive nature based with a focus on animals (specifically birds) and abstraction. My color story and technique are deliberate manifestations of the feelings I aim to portray. I use real flowers, texture, gold leaf, holographic foil, and inks to guide viewers in through visual storytelling. I’m always looking for new ways to explore by learning new techniques and through experimentation and play. Some of my techniques include drips, loose brushwork, heavy texture, collage, mark making, and glazing. There’s a sense of awe and wonder that you take with you when you contemplate on my paintings. The best part is when you see the process video that I post on social media. I also write a bit of poetry for my paintings and even published a book titled, “Fly High” to inspire others to follow their dreams.
My “why” is to inspire people and provide a sense of cathartic healing when viewing my artwork and to captivate people through the rhythms of life, nature, our emotions, connection with spirit, and animals. Just like music moves us through melody, tempo, rhythm, and harmony, so too does visual art with all its elements, color, composition, texture, and value in each of my pieces. The artwork is meant to captivate all your senses, uplift, and inspire.
Art gives us purpose and allows us to get closer to our divinity connecting with the spirit and
of the soul when words are not enough. When I am creating a piece, what excites me the most is that I’m drawing upon these energies that almost seems like a dance on the canvas.
My movements and color placement seem to have a mind of its own which is why I think this process can be so intuitive. My paintings spark a powerful journey into the soul and mind, it’s a fabrication of one’s free will. It’s all about connection to higher parts of ourselves as well as our connection to spirit.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s part of what makes the journey so meaningful. Transitioning from a more traditional job to pursuing art full-time was a huge leap of faith. In the beginning, I was juggling long work hours while squeezing in time to paint late at night or on weekends. There were moments of self-doubt, especially when I’d compare myself to other artists or feel the pressure of not knowing if this path would be sustainable.
One of the biggest struggles was learning how to value my work, not just in terms of pricing, but also having the confidence to believe my art was worthy of being seen and collected. That’s not something that happens overnight. It’s a process of building resilience and self-trust.
I also faced a steep learning curve when it came to the business side of being an artist. Marketing myself, creating a website, managing commissions, and learning how to connect with the right audience all took a lot of trial and error. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re essentially wearing all the hats in your business.
Another challenge was navigating the vulnerability of sharing my art, which feels so personal, and opening myself up to criticism or rejection. But I’ve learned that those moments of discomfort are where the growth happens.
Through it all, I’ve come to realize that the struggles are just as important as the victories. Every challenge has taught me something, whether it’s resilience, resourcefulness, or how to stay connected to my ‘why.’ Looking back, I wouldn’t trade the hard moments because they’ve shaped who I am as an artist and brought me to where I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Thank you! My work is a blend of symbolism, storytelling, and emotional connection. I specialize in mixed media and abstract realism, creating pieces that often explore themes of empowerment, transformation, and the natural world. My art tends to feature a mix of feminine energy, wildlife, celestial elements, and rich, layered textures. I think what makes it unique is how I weave symbolism and emotion into each piece, inviting viewers to connect with the deeper story or energy behind the artwork.
What I’m most proud of is the ability of my art to resonate with others on a personal level. I’ve had people share how a painting spoke to something they were experiencing or brought them comfort or inspiration, and for me, that’s everything. Knowing that my work can have that kind of impact makes all the effort worthwhile.
What sets me apart is the way I approach each piece. I focus on creating works that aren’t just visually captivating but also meaningful. I want my art to feel like a portal into another world or a mirror reflecting something deeper within the viewer. The symbolism, the intentionality, and the emotional layers in my work are what make it stand out.
I also put a lot of emphasis on the journey of self-expression and connection. My art is not just about the finished product—it’s about telling stories, evoking emotions, and encouraging people to find beauty and meaning in their own lives. I think this combination of depth and vibrancy, along with my focus on empowerment and hope, is what makes my work distinct and memorable.
