Rising Stars: Meet Mike Garcia of Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Garcia.

Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My wife and I started backward gardening in 2011 shortly after we got married. I was going to culinary school and we started to question our food system. That led us to start farming in 2015 in Sorrento then to urban farming right outside college park in 2016. By 2019 we started EverOak Farm right outside of city limits.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We’ve faced challenges along the way for sure! From severe weather like hurricanes to increasing costs it can be hard. Positively our collective stubborn natures always push us through.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
EverOak farm is a small regenerative family farm. We raise chickens for meat and grow vegetables that are ‘certified naturally grown’ We run a 70 person CSA (community supported agriculture) supply produce to local Orlando restaurants, and host a weekly Saturday market October-June.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
By joining our CSA program, shopping the farm stand, going to eat at a local restaurant, just simply shopping locally instead of going to your traditional grocery store first!
