Rising Stars: Meet Nichelle Hanner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichelle Hanner.

Hi Nichelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young girl, I was always interested in hair. Amazed at the different styles I could manipulate hair in various ways whether it be rollers, hair pins, or hair products. However, at that time being a cosmetologist wasn’t a plan my parents had for me. They didn’t think it was a good way to make a long-lasting lucrative career, especially since I had become a young single parent. The plan was my parents take care of my son while I go to college, but hair always found a way to me.

While in college I would do hair for extra money I loved it! Doing hair gave me so much immediate gratification, I was helping my friends feel and look good and the transformations did it for me.

That was it! I had to figure out how to do this for a living because I wanted to love my job especially since this was my career.

I got up enough courage to tell my mom how styling hair made me happy and that it’s my why I want to get up and go to work every day to make other women look and feel beautiful. So, she took me to the nearest cosmetology school Romar Beauty in Margate, Fl and registered me that day in March 1991. I never looked back once I graduated a year later, I got my first job as a Cosmetologist at Regis in Pompano Beach Mall.

My career as a cosmetologist has opened so many doors for me. In 2000 I met the man of my dreams working in a unisex salon, we married in 2001 and later that year we opened up my 1st hair salon, Nikki’s Hair Gallery. Then I expanded and purchased my own building to help create a beautiful environment for other stylist to work.

Being an entrepreneur, I have learned many things about the business and myself as I have gained an affection for educating my industry peers.

I have been an Educator and, Director of Education for 2 major hair care companies,

an instructor for Howard W Blake High School cosmetology department and my latest labor of love is Research and Development for Slarutan Cosmetic Laboratory.

Yes, I’m still a cosmetologist of Vizions Hair Studio Inc since 2013 and now I have my own Hair Care line, “Vizions Hair Care” I want my legacy and love of this hair care industry to continue because with great products, and product knowledge we can all EnVizion the Vizion of Great Hair!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth ride being an entrepreneur has many challenges in itself throw in a pandemic and you really have to take a breath consistently pray, rely on God for strength and He will help get you through it.

My biggest challenge was being shut down for 3 months during the pandemic. Salon clientele is my livelihood when that’s gone it’s no plan B.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist “Cosmetologist” and I specialize in Healthy Hair no matter the texture or the style at the end of the service I want to see my clients look in the mirror and smile because they love what they see and feel what they love.

I’m most proud of the relationships I have built with my clients over the years I’m a household name to them and their families know who I am and what I mean to them.

What sets me apart from others is my scheduling and my ability to get my clients in and out quickly.

What were you like growing up?
Having a happy childhood, I remember always wanting to be outside playing with my friends in my neighborhood, riding bikes, playing jump rope, jacks, hopscotch always on the go. Personality I had high energy and kept myself busy, always wanting to learn something new.
