Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolle Osorio.
Hi Nicolle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Multiplatform Content Lead and Reporter at Telemundo 31 Orlando, where I have the privilege of telling stories that inform, inspire, and connect with our community. Storytelling has always been my passion because it allows me to meet people from all walks of life, experience new communities, and amplify voices that deserve to be heard.
I was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, and moved to the United States when I was 17 years old. Starting over in a new country was one of the biggest challenges of my life. Learning a new language, adapting to a different educational system, and finding my place in a competitive industry was far from easy. There were many moments when the obstacles made my dream feel almost impossible to achieve. But each challenge taught me resilience and strengthened my determination to pursue a career in journalism.
Orlando welcomed me with open arms and gave me the opportunity to build the career I had always envisioned. Today, one of the greatest joys of my work is being a voice for Central Florida’s Hispanic community, a community that is incredibly diverse, resilient, and rich in culture. It’s an honor to share stories that reflect its unique experiences and celebrate the people who make it so special. Every story reminds me why I chose this profession and how grateful I am for the journey that brought me here.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Moving to a new country and leaving everything you know behind in a carry-on suitcase is one of the biggest decisions a person can make. Along the way, I faced financial challenges, cultural differences, language barriers, immigration and legal documentation hurdles, and the emotional process of building a new life while being far away from the place I had always called home.
Breaking into the media industry came with its own set of challenges. As a Hispanic journalist, I had to prove that my perspective and experiences were valuable. My accent is a part of who I am, and while I embrace it today, there were times when I was told—directly or indirectly—that it wasn’t what some media outlets were looking for. Those moments were discouraging, but they never changed my goal. Instead, they motivated me to keep improving, work harder, and show that authenticity, dedication, and strong storytelling matter far more than sounding like everyone else.
Looking back, those obstacles shaped me into the journalist I am today. They taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of creating space for diverse voices and experiences in the newsroom.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a Multiplatform Content Lead and Reporter, I have the opportunity to tell stories that go beyond the daily news cycle. What I love most about my work is its variety. One day I may be covering local businesses and the people behind them, and the next I’m reporting from a university about educational opportunities, exploring advancements in space exploration, or covering politics and issues that directly impact our community.
I’m especially proud of the storytelling approach our team takes. We strive to create stories that are thoughtful, engaging, and often documentary-style stories that don’t just report the facts but provide context, answer questions, and help our audience better understand the world around them. Whether it’s tourism, science, education, community initiatives, or public affairs, our goal is to produce content that resonates with people from all walks of life.
What sets my work apart is the opportunity to connect with audiences across multiple platforms while telling these stories in Spanish. For many Hispanics in Central Florida, even if they understand English, there is something deeply meaningful about receiving important information in their native language. Being able to inform, educate, and connect with our community in the language they feel most comfortable with is a privilege that I never take for granted, and it’s one of the aspects of my career that makes me the proudest.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d like readers to take away from my story, it’s that your circumstances don’t have to define your future. There will be moments when your goals feel out of reach and when the obstacles seem bigger than your dreams, but there’s always a way forward.
Believing in yourself can take you farther than you ever imagined. Stay curious, keep learning, embrace the challenges, and don’t let anyone else define your potential. You never know where perseverance and passion will lead you.
