Rising Stars: Meet Nina Ramos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Ramos.

Hi Nina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Nina. I am an abstract impressionistic painter living in Lake Mary, FL. As a child, my happy place was the kitchen table surrounded by sheets of white computer paper, crayons, markers, and pencils. I would happily sit for hours creating stories in my head and illustrating them page by page. Years later, not much has changed. My happy place is still my art studio with my imagination and ideas as my companions! As an adult, I put art aside for many years (16!) while I successfully built a career in Marketing. Inevitably, I found my way back to art. After a series of life events, I officially launched my creative practice in 2018 and life is good!! I have so enjoyed connecting with collectors and other creatives online. I’ve partnered with brands including Alex and Ani, I went viral on Etsy out of nowhere and sold out of all of my original paintings in one day, and I have signed several licensing contracts. And most importantly, I have been steadily growing my art practice into something I am proud of… which is something I give gratitude for every single day. I have many goals and aspirations for my art practice and my creative business. Growth for me is quiet, slow and steady. If you would like to follow along on the journey, make sure to follow me on social media, @ninaramosart, or sign up for my newsletter.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been rough patches along the way! Anytime you start something new, you are guaranteed to make mistakes. I went from being an executive in corporate America to running an art business on my own. I completely started over and I can say confidently that most of the time I have NO clue what I am doing. I’ve signed bad contracts, wasted 100s of hours pursuing fruitless endeavors, I’ve spent thousands of dollars in bad investments, and painted my way through a global pandemic to name a few. However, looking back, the biggest lesson I learned was that growth for me personally needs to be quiet and slow. Coming from a sales/marketing background, I wanted to conquer the world right out of the gate. I pursued licensing contracts, partnerships, and more before I had built a solid foundation for my art business. I realized somewhere in my second year that I needed to dial it back and focus on developing my art practice before pursuing other ventures that required lots of valuable time. That decision was a turning point for me and my work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is an influenced heavily by the colors, energies, and emotions in my life. I paint in a colorful, energetic style. I’m not as concerned with capturing subject matter exactly as you see it, but instead, I focus on capturing feeling and meaning. Painting brings me peace, joy, freedom, and an opportunity to celebrate beauty in the world around us. My deepest wish is to be able to convey those feelings to you, offering a moment of happiness, a feeling of belonging and a sense of self. I owe my love of composing colorful art to my vibrant Hispanic family and upbringing. Growing up, I was surrounded by art, richly textured serape blankets, handmade jewelry, antiques and painted terracotta pottery from Mexico. I carry those memories with me, combining them with the inspiration that surrounds me in my daily life, in my travels and in my own imagination.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have a very supportive tribe but my husband, Mario, has been my biggest supporter from day one. He has helped me in every way possible, from offering moral support and encouragement to building me stands to place art prints, putting up tents and hanging artwork at shows.
