Today we’d like to introduce you to Olyvya Kells.
Hi Olyvya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I come from a rich musical background, rooted in the vibrant culture of the Bronx, New York City. Growing up, I had the honor of watching both of my parents perform—especially my mother, who graced stages around the world with her voice. Watching her inspired me deeply. I knew early on that, no matter where life took me, music would always be a part of my journey.
Music has been in my blood from the beginning. I started singing as early as fourth or fifth grade, auditioning for solos and often being selected. But it wasn’t until I got to college that I truly began to find my voice and step into my own artistry. I attended Florida Memorial University in Miami, Florida, and it was there that I blossomed—both musically and personally. I began to craft and develop my sound, stepping confidently into my gift.
Over the years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to sing for esteemed individuals including President Barack Obama and Jeb Bush, and I’ve opened for artists such as John B, H-Town, and Gloria Estefan just to name a few. My journey has taken me around the world through tours and performances, and every experience has only deepened my love and commitment to this craft.
Singing, performing, and connecting with others through music is my passion—one that I hold close to my heart. It brings me joy, freedom, and a sense of purpose, and it’s something I will always cherish and continue to pursue with love and dedication.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m truly excited about what’s unfolding in my life and career. But to be honest, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Over time, I’ve encountered many obstacles—roadblocks, detours, and hurdles that I’ve had to face, climb over, and ultimately grow through. Each of these moments has shaped me, strengthened me, and brought me closer to who I truly am.
For me, this journey has been deeply healing. And that’s why music is so essential to my life—it blesses and restores my soul in ways that words alone cannot. If you know, you know: music has the power to soothe even the most restless spirit, and that’s exactly what it has done for me. It has carried me through some of my most trying times and continues to be my greatest source of peace and expression.
Becoming a mother was one of those moments that changed everything. It naturally slowed me down, but it also grounded me. It became a beautiful testament to my strength and resilience—a powerful chapter in my story that I will forever be grateful for.
Through it all, I remain thankful. Thankful for the struggles, the breakthroughs, and especially the music that has accompanied me every step of the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself a true Renaissance woman. I wear many hats—and while I may not do everything perfectly, I approach each role with passion, intention, and perseverance. Even in moments of doubt or when it feels like I’m taking steps backward, I do my best to keep moving forward, holding on to a simple but steady faith. That faith continues to guide me.
As a Renaissance woman, I am not only a singer, entertainer, songwriter, and mother—I also thrive in the professional world. I’ve built a strong career as an executive assistant, administrative assistant, and HR professional. I’ve served as a receptionist and personal assistant, working with notable individuals in the Orlando and Maitland, Florida areas. It’s work I truly enjoy, and I take great pride in it. Just as I do on stage, I bring excellence, reliability, and heart into every aspect of my professional life.
What excites me most is the opportunity for growth—new experiences that challenge and shape me. But if I had to choose what I’m most proud of, it would be two things: being a mother and finally embracing my authentic self.
For a long time, people only saw “Kells”—the performer, the experience, the energy on stage. But there is so much more to me than what happens in the spotlight. I’m proud of the quiet strength behind the scenes, of the woman who is now choosing to show up fully, with all her layers, flaws, and brilliance. That’s what I cherish most—being able to be Olyvya unapologetically and completely.
What sets me apart is simple: there is no one else like me. And for that, I am deeply grateful. I know who I am, I know where my gifts come from, and I honor the Creator—Yahweh—for blessing me with the purpose, talents, and opportunities to walk in my calling.
I believe that each of us carries a unique gift, something divinely placed within us to serve a greater purpose. While our gifts may differ, we are all connected—each of us set apart in our own way, yet here to learn from, support, and grow with one another. Once we truly understand and embrace that truth, I believe we’ll move through life with more grace, understanding, and unity.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’ll be the first to admit that there have been many times in my life when I’ve felt completely alone. But over time, I’ve come to realize that mentorship, for me, hasn’t always looked traditional. In many ways, the world itself has been my mentor—through small, powerful moments and wisdom shared by people I’ve encountered along the way.
I truly believe the Creator, Yahweh, can speak through anyone, at any time, in any way—so long as we are open to receiving the message. But hearing the message is only the first step; the real growth comes when you apply it to your life. Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered what I call “angels”—people placed at just the right time to uplift, encourage, and pour into me. A word here, a gesture there—those seemingly small moments have helped shape me and keep me moving forward.
My son has been one of my greatest inspirations. His presence and love have uplifted me in ways I can’t fully explain. And his grandparents, through their words and wisdom, have also been incredible mentors. It reminds me that mentorship can be found in community—it doesn’t always have to come with a title or formal structure. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, I believe it takes a community to sustain an adult. We never truly know what someone is going through—or growing through.
This mindset has taught me that “each one, teaches one.” It’s a powerful principle that has guided how I show up and how I connect. And when it comes to networking, I believe in staying ready. Whether it’s through a business card, a QR code, a warm smile, or a simple conversation—be present, be prepared, and put your best foot forward. It’s always valuable to listen to others, but most importantly, walk in your purpose. Do what feels aligned with who you are and what honors your spirit—so long as it’s right in the eyes of the Creator.
Be authentic. Be honest. Be fair. The right doors will open. And yes, there may be resistance or negativity along the way—but let that serve as fuel, not a setback. Keep moving forward. Keep your eyes and heart open for those angels—those unexpected mentors—who will continue to drop precious jewels along your journey.
