Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Davis.
Hi Pamela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began out of tragedy. On December 20, 2010, my father passed away suddenly. In a matter of three hours, I went from living in Orlando with my younger sister to becoming a caregiver to my mother and sister. It was chaotic, and I wasn’t ready. I would spend the next ten years in a cycle of grief, stress, and depression that left me going through life as a “walking zombie’. I was just trying to figure out how to find myself again. As the years progressed, I realized that the only way I was going to find a rhythm for my new family dynamic; while finding myself again was to tap into who I am. So, that led me to therapy. That also led me on a journey to self- discovery. I lost myself caring for everyone else; and I was desperate to find “me” in all of the madness.
During this time, I read all of the books and took all of the courses. I was finding “me” in everything… lol. But, one day I realized that was the key. I was still there. I just needed to learn to trust/love myself. I also had to learn that my journey was unique, and it didn’t matter how many books I read, My journey was personal to me, and I needed to own that. So, I decided to learn how to own my mistakes and successes. I also found strength in sharing my journey with others, because iron sharpens iron. I realized that when we create space for real conversations, magical things happen. We realize the differences that separate us are not so many. We also allow opportunities for growth and bonds to be formed. That’s what the Well Done Life Podcast is about. It’s about creating a safe space for women to share our stories and learn from each other. I’m starting with the podcast leveraging my experiences and journey, but my plan is to grow this into resources/products that everyone can use to tap into their “inner expert” and live their best life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. I wasn’t equipped to be a caregiver. Hell, I was equipped to handle adulting on level 10…lol
My journey has been filled with grief, depression, money troubles, and delays. There were lots of lessons that I had to learn to get to this point. But, I think that’s what makes my journey relatable. I’m still processing because the journey to a well-done life is never-ending, and you have to learn that your mistakes are opportunities for growth.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
By day, I’m a Digital Marketing Strategist for a Fortune 500 media company. This position has allowed me to really tap into my marketing/strategy side. I value the opportunity to stay sharp. I think my balance of Influencer marketing and structured digital marketing allow me to look at digital strategy holistically. I can give feedback from the side of the audience and marketer. That’s rare. I don’t push products, I create actionable solutions.
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I think risk-taking is essential to growth. I just think you have to be strategic.mI do consider myself a risk-taker. But, it’s always a calculated risk. I’m going to throw caution to the wind after I’ve already strategized what the outcome will be. That’s just always been me. I always believe you have to be able to bet on yourself to get ahead. Especially as a Black woman. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one will. Just fail quickly, and stay open to pivoting. Don’t give up. Just pivot. Giving up is failure. Pivoting is a roadmap to your dreams/purpose.
