Today we’d like to introduce you to PMX.
PMX, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Cyren: For me, girl groups have always encapsulated sisterhood, artistry, and love and I’ve always wanted to be part of an experience like that. When I got tired of waiting for there to be a girl group available to me, I thought I’d start one myself. I opened auditions on Instagram and even hung flyers all around downtown Orlando, but it was still a long time coming. Fast forward 2 years and I’m beyond blessed to be in a group with 3 talented and amazing women. While we love the dynamic we have with our current lineup, we have reopened auditions and are open to the possibility of a 5th member! No matter the changes we go through, I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me and my 3 best friends.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest obstacles all boil down to our own limits as newcomers in the industry with no professional backing. We do everything ourselves- from the concept stage to production and promotion- all while balancing jobs, school, and living apart. A big part of working as a team in this environment is mastering the art of collaboration. We’ve all had to learn what we bring to the table and how to allow others to contribute in lieu of sticking to our own original ideas. We are all so passionate about everything that we do, so we make sure to play to everyone’s strengths to create the best work possible. While we think it’s important to have complete control over our work, we’ve recently been able to work with professional photographers and have begun putting together a management team, so that’s really exciting!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are an independent girl group who makes music and other creative content that we feel genuinely expresses who we are, in hopes that we connect to an audience that sees a bit of themselves in us. One thing that sets us apart is the fact that we weren’t put together by a company or team of any sort- we are completely self-made. Our growth and body of work is 100% organic and 100% us. It’s a slower and more hands-on process, but it feels more solid. Our main goal is to let our individual personalities shine through everything we do so we may inspire others to do the same.
How do you define success?
Success for us would look like gaining a loyal following of people who have been impacted positively by our efforts as artists. We want to showcase authenticity and a sense of freedom of expression by constantly evolving into better versions of ourselves, so that we may connect with others through our shared experiences and emotions. If we are able to harbor meaningful relationships and give purpose to our own lives through this group, we are successful! 🙂
