Hi Precious, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for braiding started back when I was 8. I am very proud of my work because my skills were passed down to me by my late grandmother. I ran from being a Cosmetologist due to life circumstances. I needed money right then rather than building on my brand. After the pandemic, many boldly stepped out on faith to start their businesses. I asked myself, “What’s hindering me from accomplishing the same objective?” Fast forwarding to today, I am a Licensed Cosmetologist and Hair Care Professional. It doesn’t stop there; Preshd Up Unisex Haircare is only the beginning!
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
When you start a business, finances are the main struggles. It takes money to make money! At first, I struggled due to a lack of clientele and social media exposure, and I just needed a portfolio of my work. I’ve been in business for a year now, and I can’t have those problems anymore! But, the main thing we have to learn in business is that every year after a good year still has room for improvement.

I am a Licensed Cosmetologist, but I specialize in Braids. I love to call myself Precious The Braiologist. My passion for braiding is what sets me apart from others! Not only am I quick, my work is also neat, and 100% of my clients leave happy! Not only that, but they return! I work at Tim’s Braids and Dreadlocks Salon, where everyone treats each other like family!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My fiance Byron pushed me to quit my 9-5! He said I was happier doing hair versus when I work. He was right! I appreciate him so much for giving me the biggest push! He has stayed loving and caring for me through my tired nights, rough mornings, and up-and-down days.
My best friend, Nakedria, who has been my friend since kindergarten, has supported me throughout my journey. She is not even a friend anymore; she’s my sister. Whenever I feel discouraged, she reminds me of how far I’ve come, where I’ve been, and where I’m going.
My Abundant Life Disciple Center church family is Michael E Smith and Lady Asia praying for me, pushing me, and being a positive light shining over me and encouraging me through every season of my business.
Last but not least, my biggest cheerleader and supporter is my son Dracarris Jamal. The vision started with him. Having him at 16 opened my eyes at an early age. I knew I couldn’t live in the moment for myself anymore. I had to live for another being. That’s scary for a teenager! I got it together, though, and it’s all because of you!
