Rising Stars: Meet Robin Hardway of Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Hardway.

Hi Robin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started piano lessons at the age of 7 in central Ohio and continued until my senior year in college at Bowling Green State University where I got a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Piano Pedagogy. Though I was classically trained on the piano, I enjoy other genres of music and learned to play other instruments in various bands. Throughout my school and college years, I learned to play the recorder, alto and tenor saxophones, xylophone, glockenspiel and had one year of guitar lessons–but they didn’t stick!

After college, I worked as an elementary fine arts teacher in central Texas specializing in music, drama and dance. After moving to central Florida in the 2000s, I changed careers and served in ministry for 28 years. During that time, I taught private piano lessons here and there, but didn’t make my studio official until the fall of 2025.

Music has been a part of my life for so long and is one of my favorite ways to unwind and express myself. I so love teaching others to play the piano and inspiring them to love music–hoping it will bring just as much joy to them as it does to me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Making Miss Robin’s Piano Studio an official business has been a relatively smooth road. Because I’ve been teaching on and off for many years, I didn’t need to relearn any skills or techniques.

The only aspects that have been a learning curve for me have been on the marketing and technology side of the business. I found a mentor on YouTube who coached me through making my studio an official business–from creating a business logo and brand to taxes and invoicing–and having her expertise and support made all the difference.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Miss Robin’s Piano Studio welcomes anyone from preschool to adult ages that wants to learn piano. It’s never too late to learn! I enjoy the challenge of teaching various ages and skill levels. I am also a Step Up for Students Provider.

I am a big fan of learning music theory and incorporate fun theory games and activities at every lesson. The more you understand how music “works,” the easier playing will become; and the easier it becomes, the more enjoyable it becomes as well.

I do use traditional lesson book methods of teaching, but also love to include any popular songs/music students are motivated to learn and play.

Lastly, I also offer a homeschool music class for up to 6 students that focuses on music appreciation and basic musical terms and concepts.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I would love to see my studio grow to maybe include other teachers, and/or other instruments as well.
