Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodrigo Frezza.
Rodrigo Frezza was born in the state of São Paulo (Brazil), where he studied business administration. In his childhood, Rodrigo Frezza practiced karate and taekwondo, stayed away from martial arts for a few years and at the age of 26, he got to know Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Later he moved to Japan and later to Italy, having trained Jiu-Jitsu in both countries. He returned to Brazil to set up his first Gracie Barra school in the city of Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo.
At Gracie Barra Lençóis Paulista, Rodrigo formed a strong team of practitioners and competitors, in addition to serving as a personal defense instructor for the Military Police of the State of São Paulo for three years. Rodrigo Frezza decided to open a Gracie Barra school in Celebration FL US, where he serves as head instructor. Its goal is to improve the lives of people in this community through the values and teachings of Jiu-Jitsu Gracie Barra, in addition to offering training to police officers and firefighters from central Florida.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting to the United States was a long and laborious journey. For years I programmed myself to apply for a visa that would allow me to live and work with Jiu-Jitsu in America. When we got our visas (family) and came here, just four months after we opened our school, the pandemic arrived and the lockdown was decreed. These closed months were extremely difficult, but thanks to God and with the support of the students, we managed to return to activities and we are growing day by day.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Jiu-Jitsu professor and Muay Thai coach. I am very proud of the work we do with children at Gracie Barra Celebration FL. We teach children from four years of age to defend themselves physically and emotionally, in addition to teaching martial arts values such as ethics, honesty, character, companionship, humility, respect, etc. and we help them develop skills such as self-confidence and self-control.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that hard work, persistence and honesty are essential for anyone to evolve in any career.
