Rising Stars: Meet Rohan Jain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rohan Jain.

Hi Rohan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I always had an innate desire to help students. During my high school, we had an online forum where anyone could post questions and other students could answer. I used to spend most of my time answering the queries of students on the forum – queries related to the courses, anxiety, and career.

During college, I discovered a platform called Quora, a knowledge-sharing platform where people posted about their life experiences. I started sharing motivational content based on my own experiences, along with my travel stories. Having traveled to 33 countries so far at the age of 28, I have learned a lot from my friends across cultures and countries, and I routinely share those experiences. Before I knew it, in just 2 years, Quora selected me as a Top Writer in 2017.

I was on cloud nine – I had always looked at other Top Writers on the platform and dreamed about becoming one of them. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the message from Quora about my selection. My following on Quora grew further, and I was selected as the Top Writer the next year as well. Today, I have close to 115,000 followers on Quora with ~43 million views on my content.

Quora opened many doors for me – I started receiving invitations from colleges for panel discussions. I was also called upon the TEDx platform to share about my passions. People started reaching out to me with more and more queries, and I started responding to the messages as much as I could. I loved helping others, without charging a single penny from them, and that resonated with everybody.

I also started posting motivational content on LinkedIn, and have gained close to 90,000 followers on LinkedIn so far. I also engage actively on Instagram, where I have more than 13,000 followers.

Writing across these platforms gave me the confidence to pen down my first fiction novel, “The Promises We Made”, which got published in Dec 2020. The Promises We Made is a romantic story that transcends borders and cultures – a story that will leave you longing for more. Within a few weeks of being published, the novel got raving reviews from multiple national newspapers in India.

Today, I still write consistently across platforms. It is tough to post high-quality content every single day and engage with thousands of readers on a daily basis. But the messages I receive from students mentioning how much my posts have impacted their lives, always bring a smile to my face.

And I keep going – day after day, week after week, year after year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being so active on social media across platforms, and engaging with thousands of followers is never easy. There have been multiple obstacles – I have sometimes been at the receiving end of trolls, I have faced a writers’ block, and there have been days when I lose the motivation to help others every day without charging a penny from them.

But the love and support I receive from thousands of students, and the smile I see on their face when they achieve their dreams, keeps me going every single day.

My motto in life is simple – if any effort from my side can positively impact the lives of so many people in even a tiny proportion, it is worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Apart from writing so actively across platforms, I am a management consultant with one of the major consulting firms in the world. We work with clients across industries and advise them on strategy, while also supporting them on the execution.

I feel very proud when I see the actual change on the ground, and knowing that I was able to contribute in some manner to the change in the clients’ growth. It is interesting that in my professional life, I love helping clients, while in my personal life, I love helping students and other professionals who need any career advice or motivation.

I guess at the end of the day, I really love helping others out from the bottom of my heart, and that is what sets me apart from others.
