Rising Stars: Meet Rohan Phillip of Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rohan Phillip.

Hi Rohan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began making music in high school about 10 years ago. I was a part of a rap duo called G-Money 908 which quickly dissolved. After high school, I went to college at UCF, where I met some engineers who got me started again. After meeting a couple of friends who inspired me to continue to make music, I fell in love. Fast forward three years, and I started to take it more seriously. After dropping three EPs, I decided to go on a run of singles. I have been creating music consistently since that time, catapulting my creativity to a new level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a challenging road. I don’t think anything worthwhile is meant to be smooth. Think about it like this; a smooth brain is a nonworking one. In making music, I strive always to be creative. I don’t want a song to play and my following to hear it and say, “ oh, I’ve heard this before,” or “ he sounds like a such and such artist, “ and for that. I’m constantly scratching songs or re-creating vibrations. The more music you make, the tougher it becomes to be even more creative. But at the same time, the more you practice, the easier it becomes to create different kinds of music. I’ve had opportunities to jump at an ideal situation, but my gut remains the same about keeping my independence. Having to market and manage my music smoothly would be boring. I wouldn’t have this process any other way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of my music collection up until now. I worked hard to get to where I needed to be in developing my own sound. I typically specialize in writing music and creating it. My last EP, ‘Every Other Time,’ which I dropped in September, is my proudest work yet. The collection of work speaks for itself with real stories, double entendres, and A sequel song to my old artist name. What sets me apart from others is that I am a non-conformist in my artistry. I believe that if I continue to do what I have been doing, No one will be able to imitate my style of music. And my fans will only hear different kinds of sounds.

Any big plans?
My plans for the future are:
1. Continuing to make music that sets me apart.
2. Develop my stage presence, and put on crazy shows.
3. Continue to monetize my business and stay consistent.

The biggest change that is coming is the presence that I put out on social media. So you all wait on it.
