Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Galvis.
Hi Sara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started honestly through the pandemic. Since I was working in the medical field, I never stopped and that indeed spurred innovative ideas for me to create; one of them being writing my own children’s book. Since I worked in the OBGYN department, there was one question that new moms kept saying out loud: how will my baby adapt to a bilingual household speaking Spanish and English”? That made me think and I couldn’t help but make a personal connection to that comment because I too struggled when I first moved to this country at the age of five. And it was during that moment that I had the idea of writing my own children’s book targeted at bilingual households. I created Las Frutas with Tomás, with the same concept I was taught English; merging both languages (think of Dora the Explorer). I did not want to just include translations, so I incorporated unique facts, in this case about fruits. So, I had the content of the book and an idea of the illustrations, but I am by no means an artist. There is where I found Hiruni, a professional children’s book illustrator. I pitched my ideas and how I envisioned incorporating my Venezuelan culture, using bright colors and big images. She had the same passion as me and the rest is history. I thank her from the bottom of my heart because she put my ideas into these beautiful illustrations that you can find throughout the whole book from the beginning to the end.
Since the launch of Las Frutas with Tomás on the Amazon platform, I have received a 5/5-star rating with a goal in mind to become a bestseller.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were some trial and error since the Amazon platform can be tricky, but the biggest struggle was myself getting in the way. I would like to think I am a perfectionist and kept holding back on when to launch, if the content could be relatable, if it were a good idea even to publish it, etc. But I overcame that by literally counting to five and publishing without looking back. The amount of feedback I received and support was more than I imagined and I am forever thankful for those who believed in me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am working for a staffing company where we provide Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services to companies and businesses from small to large/corporations. I took the leap of making a complete 180 away from the medical field. I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and there is a purpose to everything we do in life whether it be positive or negative; therefore, I am proud of all my mistakes and all my successes because it has led me to the position and the woman I am today. I am proud of always going forward and never looking back. There is still much to learn and to improve and I am just excited to see what my future holds for me.
What do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy are the people I have met throughout my journey, the support system through my followers and my personal connections, the friendships I’ve built that will last forever, and my family those who are blood and those who are not. I would not be the person I am today without these experiences and the people I have met and created. I am truly happy with the personal and professional growth I have made that it is only opening new doors and opportunities for me to take. Today makes me happy, the future makes me happy, and every day makes me happy.
