Rising Stars: Meet Selideth Perez of Central Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selideth Perez.

Hi Selideth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
“Serving others has always been one of my greatest passions. Throughout my journey—as a pastor, worship leader, and midwife—I’ve been deeply honored to walk alongside families during some of life’s most meaningful moments. My years in pastoral ministry opened my eyes to the profound need families have to raise their children in environments filled with love, peace, and respect.

Sadly, many children are born in settings that feel impersonal and even hostile—far from the warmth of loved ones and surrounded instead by unfamiliar faces, strict protocols, and unnecessary interventions. Having personally experienced childbirth both in hospital and home settings, I can confidently say that every woman deserves the right to choose how, where, with whom, and when she gives birth.

The modern childbirth system often strays from what is natural. Too frequently, the process is disrupted, and vital information that could empower mothers, nurture babies, and strengthen families for generations is overlooked.

My work as a midwife is driven by three core values: service, education, and creating a safe, sacred space for families throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I am passionate about sharing knowledge on the physical, social, and emotional benefits of practices like attachment parenting and breastfeeding, which have lasting positive effects on families.

Ultimately, my deepest desire is to contribute to a better world for our children and future generations—a world where every life begins in peace. It is my prayer that my hands, my teachings, and my care become a blessing to every family that entrusts me with their birth journey.”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no. Yes, because I truly love what I do and deeply value the relationships I build with the families I serve. There’s so much joy and purpose in walking alongside them through such a transformative season of life.

However, the reality is that our healthcare system is often broken. It frequently lacks the support and mutual respect that should exist among medical professionals. In many cases, this lack of support isn’t rooted in bad intentions, but rather in a lack of understanding. Many medical professionals simply haven’t been exposed to what a natural, physiological birth looks like when it unfolds without unnecessary interventions—and even fewer have experienced a home birth firsthand.

Because of this gap in knowledge and experience, midwives and the families we serve often face unnecessary challenges. I believe that greater education and collaboration can build the bridges we need to offer families the respectful, informed, and holistic care they deserve.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed midwife specializing in natural and physiological homebirth. My passion is to walk alongside families during one of the most meaningful seasons of their lives—supporting them with knowledge, respect, and genuine care. One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to offer families a safe and empowering birth experience in the comfort of their own homes, where they can welcome their babies surrounded by love and peace.

What sets me apart is a combination of both personal and professional qualities. I’m bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish, which allows me to serve and communicate effectively with a diverse community of families. I’m also a Christian, and my faith in the Lord deeply shapes the way I practice midwifery. It gives me the strength and wisdom to love, respect, accompany, and educate each family with compassion and integrity.

For me, this work is more than a profession—it’s a calling. Every birth is unique, and it’s a privilege to be part of such sacred moments in a way that honors each family’s values and choices.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is the wonderful family-friendly atmosphere. There are always so many events and activities that bring people together, creating a real sense of community and joy. It’s a beautiful place to raise a family and connect with others.

What I like the least? Definitely the traffic—haha! It can be a challenge sometimes, but I guess that’s the price we pay for living in such a vibrant and growing area.
