Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Walker.
Hi Shay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Floridian native and love everything about living here! When I think about the parts that shape me the most, it’s exploring the beautiful parts of this state, woods to the beaches. I’ve had a whimsical way going about life – it all came to a huge fault when my mother died at 14 – I found myself losing the joy of being a young woman growing up.. yet losing her gave me a sort of obsession about moments – and saving them. Photos are all I have of her, and that was a wake up call for me. So I picked up a camera and learned it all on my own, front to back. Being able to capture moments in time & life that you never want to forget, you never want to lose, and you want to bottle up forever—That’s photography to me. We tell stories, we find wonder, and we bottle the moments when they pass. My camera, it saved my life. Life is so beautiful, yet sometimes so extremely short – it’s a huge honor to be someone that gets to capture moments for others. Before every shoot, I truly go through an emotional process to put myself in their shoes – what moments are important to them? – How can I use empathy and love for others to use my art and bottle those moments for them. On the whole, I take what I do seriously and every shot matters. Every moment. Every person.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I always say if the road is smooth – it won’t be remembered. Your struggles define the moments you carry on to tell others as your story. I take every single struggle I’ve had in my life – throw it over my back… to build strength within myself to learn how to be a better person for those around me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work? I moment chase. I specialize in bringing out the individual we all strive to see in ourselves, whether that be a new business owner, someone wanting a fresh start to rebrand their business, someone who wants to keep up consistency to their brand and business. I work mainly with business owners and a huge chunk in the real estate community. I am most proud when someone starts our session by saying a list of things they are insecure about & they don’t like their picture taken, and at the end are excited by the shots I show them, they see themselves how they should – confident. I would believe all of the above sets me apart. I have a particular way to put myself in other’s shoes and get them the results they want – not what is a baseline expectation. Something more than they ever thought they could get from a photo of themselves.
What’s next?
I’m looking forward to having the privledge of waking up every day and making it my own. As far as the future goes business-wise, I want to grow yet still keep those core values I started my work on – grow into the business sector of photography, not just for the individuals – but on a bigger scale to impact others in really meaningful ways.
