Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia Touchton and Sondra Deck.
Hi Talia and Sondra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hello! We’re Lusus Naturae Makeup, a partnership between 2 makeup artists located around the Orlando, FL area.
We’re Sondra Deck and Talia Touchton and these are our stories. Sondra gained an interest in makeup artistry around the age of 16. She started playing around with eyeshadows and other beginner SFX materials. At the age of 19, she enrolled in the Vocational Academy of Makeup and Prosthetics (VAMPFX), got diplomas for both Beauty Makeup Artistry and Modern Effects Makeup Artistry, and graduated in 2020. From there, her love for SFX makeup artistry grew. Sondra now enjoys doing, and excels at, latex mask making, prosthetic making, and special makeups such as cosplay!
Talia began her makeup journey back in high school around the age of 14. a theatre program is where she found her love for the world of “behind the scenes”. It was here, assisting with a special makeup for one of the shows, that she realized that she wanted to become a Makeup Artist for a living. With more research, she found the world of SFX makeup.
Being a horror lover, and one that enjoys blood, gore, and practical effects, she gravitates towards this side of makeup more. At the age of 18, 2020, she enrolled in VAMPFX for both Modern Effects Makeup Artistry and Beauty Makeup Artistry. She fully graduated in 2021 and since then has enjoyed doing makeup jobs of all kinds. From bridal to monster makeup she loves it all, ultimately though she shares Sondra’s love for sculpting and FX!

We also appreciate you taking the time to share your stories with us. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sondra: It hasn’t been a smooth road. During VAMP, Covid 19 happened and after I graduated it was very hard to find a makeup/studio job during that time. I knew Talia will be in the same boat as me. So we decided to make Lusus Naturae Makeup, our small business. We had our ups and downs these past years, and we had to really figure out what we wanted to do with our business, but I know this year we will keep going uphill and we have a lot of ideas for the future.
Talia: as Sondra said, it hasn’t exactly been a smooth road. COVID-19 made it quite difficult at the time. We partnered up, made Lusus Naturae Makeup, and with every passing year gets better and better!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are professionally trained makeup artists and we offer various makeup services to the Orlando, Florida area! We specialize in SFX makeup, specifically more on the latex mask, prosthetic, and handmade items side of it. However, we also love to see ideas and projects come to life! So we also love to do and provide, make up for things like cosplay, weddings, proms, films, and other things.
We’re most proud of our range of abilities in the makeup world (having training in both beauty and SFX). We’d say what sets us apart from others is our willingness and eagerness to try anything! Ultimately we want your vision to come to life in our makeup and we are not above experimenting with different looks and effects to make that happen.
Any big plans?
Sondra: My goal is to work with a studio to do makeup for films!
Talia: my ultimate goal is to move to Georgia to do makeup for films!
