Rising Stars: Meet Teresa Harper of Mount Dora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Harper.

Teresa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Harper Family Charitable Foundation was started by my Grandparents, Robert and Patricia Harper in 2003. Our mission is for the Health, Maintenance, Education and well being of children and adults with disabilities in Central Florida.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always challenges, however, my Grandfather always told me that the hard things in life will either make you bitter or better, so I always focus on the good things. Because without the struggles we would not be where we are today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Running the foundation is a favorite part of my day! I love helping organizations help the disabled community. I also have a quilt shop that I own and run. I love getting to know the ladies and gentlemen in the quilting community. Seeing how a lot of people are helping others through their hobbies is so rewarding and fun! Because of the work my family foundation does I was also introduced to another passion, ballroom dancing!!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think with the foundation there is always a need! I have seen a rise in the number of organizations coming to us for funding every year. It is unfortunate that the need is so great! I am also thankful that we are able to help in such a small way.
