Rising Stars: Meet Terrie Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrie Nelson.

Hi Terrie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In hindsight, there were many aha moments that led me to where I am today. I picked up a camera for the first time at a trip in Tennessee with some really good friends, Mr. Larry and his wife, Karen. They spent some time with us while we were visiting Tennessee. They let us play with their Nikon camera while we were there! Shortly after, my hubby and I purchased a camera and I started up a YouTube Page focused on natural hair. I did that for a couple of years while taking photos at a non-profit organization called, Children In Action Sports Club and I also had a daughter who I loved taking photos of! There were so many moments that made me love photography. They were all moments in our life where we were blessed and being present.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definitely times where I was about to quit because I was uncertain of what’s next and I wasn’t sure if I was making progress. I am really blessed because in the times where I felt helpless or discouraged, a friend or mentor would encourage me to keep going.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a portrait and wedding photographer. We photograph moments that create a legacy because that’s what we all hope to do… leave a legacy here, be inspired and inspire others! In hopes to inspire, we host and creative workshops in the wedding industry for fellow creatives. We create and connect in that! We are known for our photography and workshops that we create for fellow creatives. I am really gracious to the people in our lives that support us. When I think of what sets us apart from others, I think of us doing our best to have integrity in everything we do. We try hard to run our business by the golden rule and to be authentic in who we are!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is as having a great relationship with my husband and my children while running a business going after my dream.
