Today we’d like to introduce you to Theo Stefanou.
Hi Theo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Connecticut working in my family’s salon, Andrew Stefanou Salon and Spa. From a young age, I loved going to work with my parents. Watching exciting hair transformations, vibrant colors come to life, and soaking in the lively conversations between stylists and clients.
In middle school, I’d beg the stylists to let me practice shampoos and head massages. Reluctantly, they agreed, and that’s how I began perfecting the art of shampooing, my first hands-on experience with clients. By high school, my favorite part of the week was spending Saturdays in the salon with people who felt like family, surrounded by the creative energy I grew up loving.
Those early experiences are what truly inspired me to become a stylist.
After earning my bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Hartford, I went on to study at TIGI Hairdressing Academy in Newtown, Connecticut. My skills grew rapidly, and I took advantage of advanced training opportunities, including the Masters of Balayage program. When I graduated in 2023, I had both a strong technical foundation and years of real world salon experience behind me.
In May of 2024, I moved to Orlando to continue building my clientele and growing my portfolio, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve definitely faced a few obstacles along the way, but the biggest challenge so far has been stepping into a completely new environment. Relocating and starting over in a new city comes with a lot of uncertainty, especially when you’re building a business from the ground up.
Fortunately, I’ve been incredibly lucky to have a strong support system. My fiancé and close friends have been there every step of the way, constantly cheering me on and helping to spread the word about my salon. Thanks to their support, and a lot of hard work, I’ve been able to steadily grow my clientele in just over a year.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in hair color, with a particular focus on blonding, balayage, and lived-in color techniques that allow me to create soft, natural, and effortless looks. While these are my signature services, I always get excited when I have the opportunity to get creative and work with bold, vibrant colors. It’s a great way to push boundaries and let my artistic side shine.
What truly sets me apart from other stylists and salons is my background and experience. I grew up immersed in a salon atmosphere, surrounded by people who valued both skill and service. One of my biggest inspirations has always been my dad. While he wasn’t a stylist himself, he had a strong sense of design and an even stronger belief in the power of great customer service. He taught me early on that kindness, attention to detail, and client satisfaction are the foundation of any successful business.
I carry that lesson with me every day. For me, it’s not just about creating beautiful hair, it’s about creating an experience where each client feels heard, cared for, and confident when they walk out the door.
What matters most to you? Why?
The most important part of this work, for me, is helping people feel beautiful, inside and out. It’s something you hear often in this industry, but it genuinely never gets old. There’s nothing more rewarding than when a client looks in the mirror and says, “You made me feel pretty.” That moment of confidence and joy is why I do what I do. I love being able to take someone’s vision and bring it to life in a way that feels authentic to them.
