Rising Stars: Meet Tina Rich of New Smyrna Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Rich.

Hi Tina , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love of design began from visiting job sites with my construction developer father, spending time in the imaginative world of my mother’s hair salon. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Interior Design at Florida State University, I made the move to New York City to launch my career in design.

Starting as an intern for a prominent interior and furniture designer, I worked my way up to the Retail Design team and worked on the design and construction of fifteen retail stores nationwide. In 2014, I decided to forge ahead on my own, creating Tina Rich Design, a full service interior design firm specializing in residential design.

In 2022, we moved from NY back to FL. With a small team still based in NYC, we now take on clients throughout the US and abroad.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a small business owner is almost never a smooth road! But I do love what I do and that makes all the difference. There are so many facets that go into an interior design business that you learn along the way, most of which you can’t see in the beautiful images of a completed project. Project management, accounting, marketing, HR!

Besides design, I do think that client services, good communication, and organization are most important in clients having a good experience during the design process. The design process can be a windy road, one that clients are often doing for the first time, so we pride ourselves in being great guides throughout the process.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Spending Summers in Greece, where my family is from, allowed me to immerse myself in laidback Mediterranean lifestyle and design, which informs our designs. We take pride in creating expertly curated yet perfectly effortless spaces. We use a mix of handmade, vintage, and custom designed pieces to create one of a kind spaces, tailored to a client’s style and personality. My personal love of natural materials, ceramics, handmade pieces are evident in all our designs. I’m always on the hunt for up and coming artists and makers to share with my clients. My favorite part of my job is collaborating with other artists and makers, taking their unique craft and style, and collaborating on a piece that is designed specifically for a space. That is where the magic happens!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m somewhat of a risk taker in design! I do like to push my clients slightly out of their comfort zones when it comes to designing their spaces, whether that be a 14′ H wallhanging or a 5′ round soaking tub (see photos!).
