Today we’d like to introduce you to Venus Gonzalez
Hi Venus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This all started as being able to cope with the loss of my great grandmother, whose passing coincided with my birthday two years ago. I had tried many skills to cope with her lost. Her final gift to me was a big pack of colored beads & a birthday dinner.
I decided to make bracelets, I was always a big fan of jewelry! I couldn’t stop making them. I made exactly 218 bracelets the month of my great grandmothers funeral, which was the very next month. I had given some away to friends, family, or teachers. Some I kept. I have brought so many other bead packs & I now use a different roll of string to create bracelets.
I decided to make this into a business because it is truly a passion for me. Something I love to do, I want to expand into earing as well as necklaces. But bracelets are my mainstream. I’ll also make a few cuffs again soon, those are expensive but I have a feeling I can really bring the price down. But I want to really push my business before it opens!
When I first started, I couldn’t stop.
It helped me so much. I wanted to spread my love for the craft, so I started just giving them away! For christmas while I was on my first cruise, I gave several away to the staff members and the smiles and excitement some never took them off oncd they got them. Anyways, Currently I am working on my next two biggest projects, The first being to make every single admin, teacher & dean basically everyone who works in Ocoee High School a bracelet. I go to that school! I love everyone who works there, they sacrifice so much to help us students with our education and they honestly go so above and beyond.
The second project is to be able to sell enough bracelets to help my mom around. Life is hard, she has raised me so well. I have applied for currently, 126 different jobs, not 1 job reached back. I’m aware it’d would be my first job. My mom deserves the world. I want to be able to take a bill on or two, or maybe be able to help her out in some sort of way.
I think everyone should have a chance to purchase something affordable for a loved one, have it made very durable & it fit them perfectly! I just want to spread some happiness. Some bracelets you order online they aren’t made with consistent craftmenship, the beads peel or even worse, they break! And that’s bad.
25% of purchases will be going to either a non profit or organization to help others. Like the Peace Corps, Nemours Foundation or St Jude. I hope I can make a difference to my community!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There was some obstacles
It can be lonely sometimes, sometimes bracelets and/or making them can bring people together.
It’s more pros then cons and less of a challenge and more so an obstacles itself.
Examples are for pro’s :
It’s a Conversation starter, some people, alot of people like the Handmade appeal, Versatility & you can incorporate beads with special meanings or symbolism to create a bracelet that represents your personality or beliefs.
Cons:
shown as “fad-like”?
Potential for allergic reactions
Challenges of course is competition,
Obstacles are more so prices of beads I’m not exactly so worried about either. With the right mind, anything can get done.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make and sell bracelets & jewelry. I specializing in bracelet making.
I’m known for my generosity, I’ve given and given and given, I’ve volunteered, tutored, and I did babysitting for quite some time. One of the things I’m most proud of is going about and starting up my business. Another is never giving up despite my own personal challenges.
What sets me apart from others in my bracelets is I put love in what I do, I’m all for size inclusion. I will not be just selling a “one size fits all” nobody is made the same. Also unique creativity, different patterns will be sold each week.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The app called “I am sober”
I used to have a problem with purging, which is where you do self-induced vomiting. I did that because I would overeat and feel bad so I’d purge. I’m 181 days clean!
The app is accessible, you take a pledge everyday, it doesn’t shame you if you have to restart all over. It feels great being sober. You can really use it for anything with staying clean.
