Rising Stars: Meet Dr. Wallene Bullard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Wallene Bullard. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Wallene Bullard

The Minority Pharmacist Entrepreneur Conference (MPECrx), with support from the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), is being held in conjunction with the NCPA Annual Convention in Orlando this October 13-15, 2023. Pharmacists Wallene Bullard and Gina McKnight of MIME, LLC/WMB Partners, LLC envisioned establishing a nationally recognized ‘go-to’ conference for minority health professionals seeking opportunities to learn, partner, leverage, and optimize their knowledge, leadership, and training in various aspects of entrepreneurship. In 2020, in collaboration with pharmacists Shantel Houston and Lauren Latten, Wallene and Gina planned the first Minority Pharmacist Entrepreneur Conference (MPECrx). In the early days, MPECrx was a virtual affair, allowing participants from across the country to join in the quest for knowledge and success. In 2021, the virtual conference returned, building on the momentum of the inaugural event and providing even more resources and insights to its participants. As we fast forward to October 2023, this year’s MPECrx promises to be a milestone in the conference’s history, for it will be the first-ever live, in-person gathering. It represents a powerful testament to the resilience and determination of the MPECrx planning team and its commitment to fostering minority entrepreneurship in healthcare. As MPECrx 2023 approaches, it carries with it the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of countless minority health professionals who seek to build businesses, sustain and protect their assets, and create multiple income streams. It is a beacon of opportunity, a symbol of progress, and a testament to what can be achieved when passion, purpose, and perseverance come together.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Virtual meetings, while convenient and accessible, come with their own set of limitations, particularly when it comes to fostering meaningful connections and networking. In-person events allow attendees to forge deeper connections, build trust, and create lasting relationships. As we look forward to MPECrx 2023, attendees can be excited about overcoming these obstacles and enjoying the benefits of face-to-face interactions.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Pharmacist entrepreneurs stand out because of the unique combination of healthcare expertise, a patient-centric approach, regulatory insight, and a commitment to improving healthcare outcomes. We are at the forefront of healthcare innovation, working tirelessly to bridge the gap between pharmaceutical knowledge and entrepreneurial endeavors, ultimately benefiting patients and the healthcare industry. Many pharmacists operate in local communities, where they are deeply engaged and trusted members. More specifically, many minority pharmacists are passionate advocates for health equity, working to address disparities in healthcare access, outcomes, and treatment options, especially for underserved minority communities.

Any big plans?
MPECrx envisions expanding its footprint by hosting annual conferences, ensuring that minority pharmacists and healthcare entrepreneurs have a consistent learning, networking, and collaboration platform. These conferences will continue to bring together experts, thought leaders, and professionals from diverse backgrounds to share insights, experiences, and strategies for success. We aim to establish a solid and supportive community of professionals who can lean on each other for guidance, encouragement, and mentorship. This community will extend beyond the conference itself, fostering year-round connections and collaborations, including online access to resources, webinars, and a virtual networking and knowledge-sharing community.
