Rising Stars: Meet Yami Soto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yami Soto.

Hi Yami, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi love! Thank you for having me. My name is Yami and along with my husband Luis we created what is now Vision & Vibe Events. Planning is something I’ve always been naturally good at. From a young age I was the go to for my family and friends to plan their Weddings and Sweet 16’s . At the time it was more of a hobby since I went on to Nursing School. Luis loves music. I call him an old soul. He started DJ’ing over ten years ago and he can play any and every genre of music. He attracts people from all age groups because of it. After an interesting year, in October 2019 we decided to join our talents and start what at the time we called DJ Ltunez Ent. & Events. We had always talked about starting a business together, having the time and freedom to work for ourselves and found the perfect timing to do so.

We offered DJ, Wedding Planning and Photo Booth services. We started off slowly and just as we were gaining momentum Covid hit. We truly took this time of pause to really think about what direction we wanted to take our business. So in October 2020 we decided to rebrand. We were finding our style and wanted to change the name to something that represented us both. That is how Vision & Vibe Events came about. We are big on Vibes so part of our mission is to be able to share genuine connections with our clients which we call “Familia”. It’s so important that you feel that from us and that we bring your Vision to life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Besides Covid affecting so many small businesses I think the challenge for us was finding and accepting our Event style. Asking ourselves what do we really want to do? What is our specialty or “niche”? Do we have one? What about Pricing? I think these are normal feelings and thoughts for any start up but when you present a company as a joint venture it’s important to have honest conversations like these. We want to show up in our most authentic form. It may not look as traditional but we’re okay with that. Also finding our own self value. Clients will come with a variety of budgets but sticking to our Pricing is something we’re learning. There is a lot of preparation that goes behind the scenes no matter how big or small the Event. The time we put into it, the design, the materials we purchase and making sure we deliver is all part of what we offer. The saying “your vibe attracts your tribe” is something we strongly believe in and we’ve been blessed to have that be true with our clients/”Familia” that have booked with us.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our services are very diverse. To start we specialize in DJ & Photo Booth Services for all types of Events. Offering customized packages for our clients who want to combine more than one service. Wedding Planning is still the heart for me though and once I got honest with myself with what type of Weddings I wanted to do it was a game changer. Elopements & MicroWeddings are my love. The more intimate it is the happier my heart gets. We recently added Luxury Picnics to the mix too which has been a lot of fun. I think it’s such a unique way to celebrate and I’m especially excited for our recent Wedding Picnic launch called “I Do’s & Picnics”. We’ve been able to team up with a great group of vendors to be able to provide everything you need in a Wedding, Picnic style. Officiant, Florals, Photography, Video, Catering, Hair & Make Up and of course a Picnic Reception to follow.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Luis and I are High School sweethearts. We’ve been together for 16.5 years and have three beautiful babies together. We are both from Dominican Republic, I born and raised in New Jersey and he grew up in New York. We met in Michigan lol. Our culture is definitely reflected in who we are and has influenced our creative style. We do speak Spanish fluently and are excited to represent our community. That is also a major thing for us to incorporate. Bringing a VIP experience to our communities where the whole family can enjoy your Event including the moms, abuelas, tias and primas that normally take on the Planner role. Besides Events, I am also a Nurse and Luis is a Real Estate Agent. Who says you only have to be one thing? We love it all.
