Today we’d like to introduce you to Zularie Montiel.
Zularie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I remember touching my first pair of brows when I was 12 years and realized it was something I loved to do. I loved the feeling of helping someone feel beautiful, so I decided then that the beauty industry was something I wanted to be a part of. I initially wanted to be a makeup artist but realized it wasn’t the path for me. When I was 18, I became a licensed Esthetician and started working at European Wax Center, which is where my journey as a wax specialist began. Five and a half years later, I’ve performed more waxes than I could ever count and decided that it was time to start my own business, The Browz Specialist. I’ve been open for a few months now, and it’s the hardest yet most fulfilling journey I’ve been on.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think there’s any entrepreneur that would say owning a business is a smooth road. It’s definitely been challenging, especially holding myself accountable and being consistent with my business. I’m not just my own boss; I’m a receptionist, janitor, social media manager, and employee all at once, which can be stressful. I’ve also always been the type of person who can rush or overlook things, but now I can’t be that way because my mistakes really cost me and my business money.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I perform full body waxing and specialize in Brazilian waxing and eyebrow services such as waxing, tinting, and lamination. Those are also my most popular services. I’ve spent years in this industry, and I’m so proud that I have built relationships with wonderful clients who have become loyal and really trust me with their body care. What I love most about this industry is that no matter how many estheticians are out there, your personality and skill is what will always set you apart. I always want to give my clients a great and personable experience, not like they’re just another client in the books. When it comes to my services, I always try to educate and give recommendations on what works best for them.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as how happy you are in what you do and how much of an impact your work has on others. I never want to be unhappy in what I do for work, and my goal will always be to connect with others and help them as best as I can. When your heart is in the right place, and you have a solid plan, the money will follow.
