Story & Lesson Highlights with Chris Mari, TPI of Lake Mary, FL

We recently had the chance to connect with Chris Mari, TPI and have shared our conversation below.

Chris, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What battle are you avoiding?
The reality that is I am getting older. Pushing 30 years old is a crazy concept to me, yes it’s still quite young in the grand scheme of things, but the fact that life isn’t stopping for anyone, myself included, is something quite profound. Sometimes, I wish life could just slow down a little so I can enjoy the little things more.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a golf coach and digital content creator based out of the Central Florida region.

I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2018, and I played 4 years of collegiate club golf while I was a student.

Currently, I am the Director of Instruction at Topgolf in Lake Mary, FL, and I am also a PGA associate working towards earning a Class-A Membership.

I get to play around 15-20 professional events a year thanks to the North Florida PGA section, and I’ve been lucky enough to win 10 times since turning pro in late 2019.

A fun fact about myself is I competed on 2 seasons on an entrepreneurial reality television show on Prime Video called The Blox (Season 7 and Season 10), and that show is where I owe a lot of my success in my career from thanks to the knowledge I’ve learned!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A very scared, unconfident, and very confused individual. If you think about it though, I wasn’t alone in this, multiple people lived life like this for the longest time, but slowly over time, we figure out how to not be these things. Now thanks to life experiences, I’ve learned you can be whoever you want to be, and you can dictate what that looks like on your own terms.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be kinder to yourself, the world can be a cruel place sometimes, but don’t let the outside noise in. Stay strong in your pursuit of happiness.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would like to say I am, but honestly the public version of myself is WAY more confident and WAY more sociable than how I actually am in real life. I would LOVE to be the public version all the time, but sometimes it doesn’t feel genuine being that person day in and day out.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I always try to give 100% effort in whatever I do, regardless if someone is watching or not. The biggest thing is I am my own best cheerleader, banking on yourself is always a solid step in the right direction mentally, regardless of what I decide to do in the amount of years I have left.
