Story & Lesson Highlights with Dayana Torres of Deland, FL

Dayana Torres shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Dayana , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The importance of what we do for people, and the urgent need there is for the right insurance and protection plan for each individual person and/or family we serve in our book of business and in our community. People do not know what they need until they actually need it, and then it may not be able to protect them because it may to late. An example is life insurance or the right car coverage among many other levels of protection we offer.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dayana Torres, and I own an Insurance Agency in Deland, FL. I started working for an agent and ventured into business ownership with a dream in 2018! we represent State Farm, as a State Farm agent I get to be a small business owner that is super invested in the community, in my office we take pride helping our customers with their insurance and financial needs. I think it is also especially unique that we offer more than just auto and home insurance, we have bank accounts, income replacement policies and so much more! I love particularly that my team and I get to actually sit with people and talk about their lives and see what best works for them and their current family situation. If and when their a claim, we serve as point of contact when needed. Sometimes, when I visit the supermarket or go to my kids’ sports games I see some of my customers and they see I am part of their community and not an 800 number. Being a State Farm Agent has afforded me the opportunity to do what I love which is help people, whether by hiring local talent to work for me, work with a local charity group or helping our customers! It is truly a special gift! As a mom of 4 it also gives me an opportunity to teach my children to work hard, with integrity and passion for helping their neighbors to realize their own dreams.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
This is a great question! I believe lack of integrity and dishonesty, in my opinion also lack of communication can break a bond in any relationship. To restore I would say earning the person’s trust and acting with love and compassion, forgiveness and care between those involved. I stand true that no matter the consequences always act with love and an open-honest mindset with others best interest at heart. I believe we will see a better world if we do act this way and build much more meaningful interactions and relationships. Being a Good human is fairly easy, so much more rewarding and good for the heart and soul.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Stop listening to everyone!!! LOL But really to give myself some grace on the hard days and continue to be a blessing to others. I think every experience shapes us but some can be avoided by listening to our gut, so I would tell myself that, listen to your gut and read the red flags and run from those. More than anything I would tell myself to love the beautiful human (not just physically but inside) that I am. Love yourself so you can love others better!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I think I am most committed to 3 things Self-growth, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness, love and compassion and making sure I raise good loving humans!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
OH MAN!!! Sadly I think about this a lot! It helps me guide how I act and react in situations. I think I want people to say, ” Dayana was good to me, she cared about me and who I am, She always acted with my best interest at heart and saw me, truly saw me as a person.” I want people to know I care and that I deeply want to do right by them.
