We recently had the chance to connect with Oscar Agramonte and have shared our conversation below.
Oscar , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Absolutely. I’ve been glad I didn’t act fast many times, especially when I receive a comment or question online or by email that feels triggering. In those moments, I’ve learned to pause, draft a response, and then give myself a day to reflect. Often, when I come back to it, I either soften the message or realize it didn’t even need a reply at all. That space helps me respond with clarity and professionalism instead of reacting emotionally. It’s a practice that’s saved me from unnecessary conflict and helped me grow as both a coach and a communicator.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Oscar Agramonte, owner and operator of Control Your Health LLC, where I help people become their strongest, healthiest selves through strength training and personalized coaching. What makes my approach unique is the blend of traditional martial arts and modern fitness. I’ve spent decades training and teaching Kung Fu and Tai Chi, and that deep foundation in discipline, control, and movement brings a different level of insight to my coaching.
What surprises many people is that I wasn’t naturally athletic, I was more of a comic book geek growing up, and I didn’t get into fitness until I was 18. That background helps me relate to people who may not feel like the “typical” gym person. I know what it’s like to start from zero, and I love helping others build confidence and strength, both physically and mentally. Right now, I’m focused on making health more accessible for busy adults through remote coaching, simple strength routines, and a mindset rooted in consistency, not perfection.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I was weak and unathletic. I didn’t see myself as someone who could ever be strong or physically capable. Over time, I learned that wasn’t true. While starting early can give you a head start, starting later, especially with perspective and intention, can help you tap into a level of potential you never knew you had. I’ve learned that strength isn’t just physical; it’s built through consistency, mindset, and self-belief.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
All the time. I’ve had moments where I was tired, stressed, or just plain hungry, and quitting felt tempting. But I’ve learned that professionals don’t succeed because they love what they do every single day; they succeed because they show up every single day. That consistency is what keeps me going.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say my wife and good food. Luckily, the two go hand in hand.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I’d probably ditch the smartphone for a flip phone, cut back on Netflix and YouTube, and spend more time being present with my wife and with the world around me. I’d stop complaining about the Florida heat and start appreciating every sweaty moment.
